Another week. Another short miss. Another agonizing defeat.

This time, it was Anirban Lahiri at the LIV Golf event at Valderrama in Spain, who missed a putt from no longer than two feet Sunday to win his first event on the circuit.

The 37-year-old from India took a four-shot lead into the final round of the league’s 10th event of the year and did not play particularly well most of the day. He had made four bogeys and two birdies with two holes remaining but birdied the par-5 17th and needed only to par the last hole to win when Sergio Garcia three-putted for bogey on his last hole of the day.

Then it happened. Lahiri missed a putt to win from … say … two feet? Announcers indicated they thought it was only 18 inches. See here for yourself.

Garcia and Lahiri both made par on the first playoff hole, then . Garcia shot 66 to win his first LIV event on what he considers one of his favorite golf courses in the world. His Fireballs team also won the team title in a playoff.

Lahiri shot a final-round 73. He continues to look for his first LIV victory. He lost in a playoff to Dustin Johnson in the 2022 event in Boston.
