Now that Matt Kuchar his last hole at the Wyndham Championship, it’s time for us to start thinking about the FedEx Cup Playoffs and its opening event—the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The top 70 pros in the PGA Tour standings, , will have the opportunity to take home the $3.6 million first-place prize money payout and a hefty amount of FedEx Cup points, putting them in prime position to potentially win the Tour Championship jackpot in a few weeks.

Last year’s FedEx St. Jude winner Lucas Glover failed in his attempt to win the Wyndham Championship and sneak into the 2024 Playoffs. Last year, that's what he did before promptly followed it up with a sudden-death playoff at TPC Southwind, besting Patrick Cantlay on the 73rd hole of the tournament. Glover will not have a chance to defend his championship, but .

Along with Scheffler and Hovland, we’re set to see Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Åberg, Sahith Theegala, Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Shane Lowry and many many more tee it up in Memphis. Jhonattan Vegas, Emiliano Grillo and Victor Perez were the last few to make the 70-player cut with Davis Riley falling behind Perez by just under seven points.

This week's event carries with it not just big money on the line, but the potentially to secure your spot in all the PGA Tour's big money events for 2025. All players ranked inside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup points list after this event move on to the BMW Championship AND are locked into next year's signature events.

Along with the money and recognition that comes with a FedEx Cup playoff win, many pros are also over the next handful of weeks. The six captain’s picks for Jim Furyk’s U.S. squad and Mike Weir’s International team will be made at the end of the season; the automatic qualifiers will be announced after the BMW Championship.

This week's winner will receive 2,000 FedEx Cup points and a $3.6 million cut of the $20 million purse.

The Ron Prichard design (with consultation from Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller) has hosted an event on the PGA Tour since 1989, and starting in 2022, it hosts one of the premier events on the PGA Tour schedule, the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Located about a half hour from downtown Memphis on an old dairy farm, TPC Southwind holds its own against the best players in the game with water coming into play on 11 holes. The par-3 11th hole is perhaps the course's signature hole, featuring a peninsula green that requires a short iron, similar to the 17th at TPC Sawgrass' Stadium course. The hole will be memorable for anyone who watched the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, when Will Zalatoris' tee shot ended up staying dry and wedging itself between the grass, in his playoff victory over Sepp Straka.
